The Fish Inn is a great Beijing experience because you get to stay in a Beijing neighborhood as opposed to a chain hotel. We enjoyed seeing our "neighbors" walk their dogs in the evening and feeling like part of real life in Beijing--albeit a lifestyle that is quickly vanishing due to new construction projects. The hotel only has a few rooms, and they are small, but they are immaculate and well-maintained. It is nice to have the small courtyard area as a common area, although we didn't use it much as it was too hot outside during our stay. The staff are extremely polite and helpful. The air conditioner, hot water heater, wi-fi, etc. all worked wonderfully. The Inn is about a 10-minute walk to the metro line (not bad). There are some restaurants nearby but none with English menus that we saw, so be prepared to point and order.

You need to be a bit adventurous to stay here because it is not easy to find and taxi's will not drive into the small alleyways (so be prepared to carry/roll your luggage) down the (very clean) alley yourself. If you are used to the services of a bellhop, this is not the place for you! Also, only the suite room we stayed in had a place to put clothes or hang things, the double room just had a few hooks on the wall, so you can't really hang up clothes. This is not a full-service hotel--just the very nice basics--you can't order food, or expect a knowledgeable concierge. The breakfast was just self-serve toast with coffee/tea and some plain yogurt.

The inn was in a good location, quiet and close to lots of restaurants. The Lingjing subway stop is just afew minutes walk. It is close to the Xidan stop off the ariport shuttle. The rooms had air conditioning and the staff was friendly. The washrooms were not new, but there are private bathrooms, with good showers, and lots of hot water. Interestingly the continental breakfast was fine - toast, yogurt and fruit. Espresso is available with the breakfast, but they charged us 5 Yuan for a cup of tea. That seemed a bit strange, I am used to coffee and tea as offerings in a breakfast.

We liked almost everything ! We immediately felt welcome here, the ladies are so incredibly kind. This place is a real oasis within one of the Hutongs. Compared to the other inhabitants of the quarter, you stay in a luxurious inn. Don't expect the western style hotels you may be used to, expect more a family approach where everyone of the staff helps you with incredible kindness. We stayed here three nights and we had the best stay of two weeks China right here. Great great place, great people !

I've read previous comments on the size of the rooms and on the variety of the breakfast. We stayed in two rooms as we extended our stay and so had to move to another room. Yes, it is true that one of the rooms was small and we could not open the suitcase on the floor. So what ? As for breakfast ... two sorts of jam, peanut butter, coffee or tea... What do you expect in China? I thought it was more that fair compared to so many other places that simply don't offer breakfast at all.

It was a nice stay at Beijing Fish Inn. Rooms are really very clean and cosy, the staff speaks good English and is eager to help their guests. It is a good opportunity to find new friends among other guests of the hotel because of it's сourtyard type - there is a little yard inside the hotel, where one can spend his leisure time. It was not easy to find it at the first time, but the map is quite useful and it's possible. The hotel is only 7 minutes walk from the subway (Xisi station, Line 4). P.S. To Beijing Fish Inn staff: Thank you girls, we really enjoyed our 14 nights stay! We will recommend your hotel to our friends!

The rooms are quite small, but one feels uneasy about it only at the first hours.

Charming hotel in a hutong. Nice staff. Small room but very clean and comfortable.

The hotel is not far from the center, but it was very difficult to get a taxi to and from the hotel. Apparently the taxi drivers don't like tourists and don't even stop. And the ones that stop, didn't want to take us to the hotel (we still didn't understand why...). But there is a subway station relatively close.

The staff was very nice and helpful. The house and the courtyard are lovely decorated and the place is quiet and conveniently located.

The place is very tiny and our room was by far too small for two people (we couldn't open our luggage) and it was dark. Thus we think it is somehow overpriced.

The kindness and availability of the staff (Tiffany), the peacefulness of the courtyard, the decoration and the breakfast

The rooms are a bit small, but it's really a minor issue compared to to the advantages

the staff though also new to beijing were very helpful and accomodating. they try to help you in all your querries. i like the setup because there were only 7 rooms and is very homey and refreshing. bed is a little hard for me but i think thats normal. bed is queen size with flat screen tv but only have chinese channels. they have free wifi but wifi inside my room is slow. you need to go the lobby for faster access. heater is working. they have hair blower too. i didnt checked the a/c as it was still cold when we stayed. as far as location, ok! near kfc, restaurants, small shops, banks, theres even a catholc church within the area. it is not walking distance to forbidden city and tianamen square as i have previously read. anyways, all are accessible via subway so no problem. subway fare is only RMB2. about 5 mins walk from the hotel.

they definitely have to improve their breakfast bec as of this writing they only serve bread, jam and coffee. the location is good as it was only a few minutes walk to the subway and main road but they have to put signages on the street for the directions going to the hotel. the hotel frontage is not directly accessible by taxi so you need to coordinate with hotel staff prior to your arrival for the directions specially if you will be arriving late. print the map that will be sent by the hotel so you can give it to the taxi driver. taxi from the airport is about RMB100. the hotel should also have free copies of maps for subway and beijing in english.

We booked last minute because our first hotel in beijing refused our extension. We moved to Fish Inn and hope we booked it at the very beginning. We especially enjoy the floor heating. The heater in our first hotel made the room untolerably dry, while the floor heating makes the room very comfortable. Girls at the front desk are very friendly and helpful. You feel totally relaxed when staying here. And last, it is traditionally designed with tasted decoration. Though the room is not big.

The staff service is well, location is all right but a little bit hard to find when you just arrive. The room is too small and narrow and you will find you do not have enough space for a relax compared with hotel room. Not bad.
